OH-IO!

Updated: Jan 5, 2024

It has rained every single time I've been to Ohio. Thankfully, not throughout the entire

hikes, mostly on the drives to get there.

  • Hiking

  1. Cuyahoga Valley National Park It rained when we got here but made the most of it because it was our only day at this park. There is a visitor center with souvenirs, though there is not any food in the park. Highly recommend one of the few ways to get to Brandywine Gorge Trails- Brandywine Falls are the tallest waterfalls in the state with a few different viewpoints. Most of the trail is in the woods, so very dog friendly. If you are up for a 5 or so mile day, there are another set of waterfalls within walking distance on a different trail (Blue Hen Falls), which is 2.5 miles

These are not as drastic comparably to Brandywine Falls, so don't expect as much water rushing down.

  1. Hocking Hills State Park

Highly recommend!! So much to see and a short trail, so good for all ages/levels. The trail we did was (Upper Falls to Lower Falls) 1.2 miles and plenty to see! There are some stairs and caves to go through. I suggest getting there early, as it does fill up quickly. Large enough in width where there is no worry if there are multiple dogs. There is NO CELL SERVICE within a few miles of the park, so make sure that you know the general route to your next destination. There is a "Grandma's Deli" nearby- literally run by a bunch of Grandmas if you are looking for a place to eat/sandwich close by that is not fast food.

  • Lodging Since it was an 8+ hour drive from home to get here, we opted for a hotel. There are .plenty of dog friendly hotels, and I definitely do not recommend skimping. One hotel that we stayed in last year was great, within 15 minutes of Cuyahoga National Park. Generally speaking, I've found that they also give you a room by the staircase so you have easy access to let the dog out when needed. Since this was our first hotel stay, Valentina was barking at all of the sounds and it was hard to calm her down. When we went this year, we went for the option of a cheap place to stay, and I regret it. The place room smelled like smoke and I asked for non smoking. I asked for a room change, but they said that it was a non smoking room and there was nothing they can do. It took me 2 days to get the smoke out of my hair. Pay the extra $20 and get a better night's sleep.
