North Dakota

Things to see/do:

I never thought that there was much to do in North Dakota, but it is one of my favorite states that we visited! Could spend a few days here.

  • Theodore Roosevelt National Park

The South Unit in the town of Medora, which is also a cute town to walk around. It is also close to Montana if you're heading that way. There is not much in Watford City, near the North Unit Entrance, though we did like the lodging there. (see below).

  • Jamestown, North Dakota:

  • Largest Hiking Point in North Dakota! (White Butte): 3.4 mile out and back trail. Note: the All Trails app says to park waaaay further than needed, so keep driving (it's hard to find the entrance to the trail), though there is a closer place to park. It is not a difficult climb with only 426 ft in elevation gain. Cool view of what looks similar (on a much smaller scale) to the badlands.

  • Sculptures: As you drive across the state, towards Jamestown, you can see sculptures right next to the road! (cool to see if you're in the area, though it does lead to nowhere).

Placees to Stay:

  • Theodore Roosevelt Inn: Stayed here two years in a row- it is right by Teddy Roosevelt Park North entrance. Cute little private cabins to stay in (they do have a hotel as well, but to me, the cabin seemed more private and dog friendly). You CAN still have the breakfast buffet in the morning at the hotel (minus your furry companion), if you are staying in the cabins.

Food/Drink:

We hopped the border and didn't really eat much in North Dakota aside from the JL Beers in Watford City, which had a pretty good burger. If you want a decent steak, go over the border to Montana haha.
