Things to see/do:

  • Indiana Dunes National Park:

Cowles bog trail is by far my favorite trail in the midwest! It is a 4.3 mile out and back trail. I loved it so much, I brought my boyfriend with me a year later just to come back to that one trail. You walk over a bridge, lots of sand, up a hill, then at the top of the hill, you can slide down the sand and you get to have a private beach and swim in Lake Michigan. If you look straight out on a clear day, you can actually see Chicago! Definitely bring water, snacks, and anything you would bring to the beach and can fit in a backpack for this hike! The water is so clear, you won't be able to resist a swim!

  • Lake Station, Indiana:

  • Downtown Indianapolis:

Not sure what these are for haha but Valentina was not a fan of hanging out solo with the elephants.

Lodging:

  • Lake Shore Camp Resort (Portage, Indiana) : they have cabins and tent sites, a lake, swimming pool, store front and a great place to walk around with the dog. We stayed in a tent, everyone around us was super friendly, lots of kids around and dog friendly. There are showers and bathrooms free of charge, which was nice. Highly recommend if you are camping! Very close to the Indiana Dunes National Parks. I would book it a little bit in advance as it can book up- especially in the summer months.

Only downside to traveling solo with a dog: showering!
